Our vacation started with a trip to the airport to pick up my brother from Alaska and then on to the local zoo. The little ones got to see the BIG BAD WOLF and found that he is really the size of a dog with not so big ears, eyes, and teeth they say really are as big as they though. LOL

When I go on vacation in a few weeks, if the predictions are correct, and I
hope not, then I will need approximately 125 gallons of gas at the
projected price of $3.00 a gallon. I will probably need $375.00 just for
gas!!!! Next year, I am going before hurricane season pushes the gas
prices to skyhigh rates. I had to go through this last year due to Ivan and
the increase in gas prices. I was told today that gas in my hometown is
$2.45 a gallon for regular unleaded and to fill up prior to getting there
and after I leave there. I will get a slight discount on that price by
going to tribal gas stations, but that price will still be high.

Neighbor just stopped by and had just bought gas at the same station. It is now $2.49 This person reported that gas there was $2.11 this morning!

Gas has really been selling in our small town today, I saw lines at several stations, especially the ones that are selling a little bit less. One station went up to $2.25 yesterday and then the rest of the stations follow suit, and now today the one that went up first came back down to $2.10, where it was before it changed yesterday, and it sure had a line up. I went down to our local 24 hour Wal-Mart, to just look as I got everything I need for a few days. All cans of LP Coleman gas are sold out, and only 2 camp stoves left, and they had about 2 dozen fairly good size ones. Not one container of milk left, but they said they will have more in the morning. Very few canned meat cans left, and very few packs of lunch meat. It was easy to tell what everyone was there for, as no one was buying to go fishing, hunting, or even clothing. Our church where I work, decided to close for this Sunday, a first for them, with no services at all this day, because of Hurricane Dennis, as they are saying there will be high winds and very heavy rain starting at about 5 am Sunday and they expect the storm to hit land about 5 am Sunday afternoon. So might say I get a day off, but I will have plenty to do, just to keep check on leaks, even tho there is not suppose to be any, but when there gets to be heavy rain and high winds, there usually appears a few, in our old buildings, of the first 10 years of the 1900's. So I will be braving the storm until it gets bad, but then I only have 1.3 miles of back city streets to go to get there. Where I live the electric seems to always go off first here, and not at where I work, so I may just stay at work if that happens. I am blessed that I do not have to deal with Dennis, but I will pay the price for Dennis when I take my vacation in August and pay the greatly increased gas rates caused by the closure of the gulf gas platforms. Did not get the chance to stop for gas this evening on my way home. But I did notice LONG lines already forming. And some stations had OUT OF GAS signs already posted. Don't know if the price has risen. I plan to get out very early in the morning and get some for my car and then go get some for my camper so I can use the generator on the camper to save my freezer food in case our power goes out. I hope others in Florida are not experiencing this same phenomena or can cope with the fast rising price. Boy, has the price of gas ever took an upward leap in our small town. I bought gas this morning, at $2.10;9 per gallon, this afternoon I went to the store, the price has changed to $2.25;9 per gallon, and then when I turned the local news on for Panama City, FL, they annouced how the price just went up to $2.44;9 there, today. Is it that bad at ;your areas, or is it just us they are over pricing? With the gulf oil platforms closed due to storms you will see a large increase in the price until those sources resume after the storms have cleared. I would not be surprised to see $3 per gallon before Dennis clears and the high waves subside. Let us hope that the platforms are not damage to the point where it takes months to get them up and running again. This same thing happened last year. My helicopter ride 2005-07-07T21:01:00.000-05:00 Tonight I got to fulfill a long time wish of mine. I got to go for a ride in a helicopter. All I can say after my ride is "WOW"! I loved it. I was quite apprehensive as I was being strapped in, thinking of how it looked when it took off and landed previously. As we were beginning the trip, the pilot told me I could just stick my hand onto the door frame to hang on if I wished. WHAT? No handle grips or even a door? It did take my breath away and quickened the old heartbeat as we began the ascent, but then it was sheer fresh breeze pleasure as I saw the city below and we flew out to see my house from the air. I new we were over the high rent district when I saw the backyard layouts of one of the housing areas not far from here. I think the in ground pools with the large slides gave it away. I sure would love to go back and do it again. I will sometime and some other place. Waiting for the beans in the pressure cooker to cool so I can open the pan and put the beans away. This is a busy time of year as the produce ripens for picking. The house has a lovely home cooking smell as the beans are now done. I fed green beans and new potatoes to the eleven month old twins today. They sure seemed to like them. Hanna and Ronnie will be 11 months old tomorrow. With them seeming to like them so well, it will be easy to use up the beans. Gary gives quite a few away as well. I cook them with bacon, onions, and celery. The last batch I cooked I did with the new potatoes. The kids will be eating beans as their lunch veggie for a few days so I hope they like them as well as the twins. I have loads of peppers on the counter as well. I may as well get in there and do something with some of them before I call it a night. I was whipped when the kids left tonight and fell fast asleep on the couch before I did kitchen clean up. We had trout for dinner and since the kids were still here, I threw in some chicken tenders that I had on hand. I really enjoyed both of them. We have gotten so we enjoy the trout fillets later as cold fish sandwiches for our lunches. The kids can have the chicken and green beans for lunch. They prefer pasta sides over potatoes so I will probably fix something in that line. There is plenty of watermelon left over from the holiday. We determined it was ok to proceed with caution to our home. I got to bed at 5 am. At 8 am we got up and headed for the dealer. They were busy locally and we were sent to a dealer 30 miles away. They fixed the car with a new fuel filter and she was ready to hit the road. She was invited to stay the night at Stevens house just 30 minutes from St. Louis, in Illinois. Steve must have been a good host because she stayed several days . I know he must have enjoyed the visit for it is a rare occasion that relatives from my side of the family can afford to make this journey 1000 miles from their home. I thought her visit cost me $15.88 an hour, but I had forgotten to add our dinner and my gas so I think her visit was more like $19-20 an hour. At those rates, I think I am better off with the rare visits. LOL Anyway, she is now safely home and we wish her well. It was a treat to be able to help her. She was returning from the marine corps base in california where she was visiting someone she was dating and her brother Ira who may be shipped to Iraq. I will be waiting to hear. This evening I have been outside watching lots of people blow up their hard earned cash. The sky around us was lit up from one end to the other with the various family displays. I would be afraid to shoot them off due to the drought conditions in our area. It seems all is going well though with the exception of across the street where their large roman candle type firework fell over and shot the house and garage door with the exhibition. I am glad they had the door shut or they could have had some serious damage. I am also glad they did not misfire and head for our yard. We worked this morning on our various tasks and then spent the afternoon trout fishing. I did quite well, released about 5-6 and gave away 3. I kept 1 and lost a few others. We have certainly enjoyed eating them this year. We have put precious few in the freezer for they are too good fresh. We have had over a week off now and I much needed the break from the care of the little ones. One might even say I had become rather "crabby". I was able to get things put away after the new floors were put in. I was sorting it all and had my mind made up that much of the items I had moved from the various pieces of furniture that had to be moved, was put in the give away box. I have been working this evening on the kids toys. I have plenty of those I am sending to Rhonda, Allie's mom, who is having a garage sale this week. They can go in her free box or where ever she wishes. I am through with them. Denise Petoskey, chairwoman of the election board, said 905 voters cast ballots, out of 3,255 total voters in the tribe or about 28 percent. The results from this primary election are preliminary, as any tribal member who is a voter can challenge the results. If the results are not challenged, the election will be certified on July 5. If they are challenged, then the election board will meet on July 5 and resolve that challenge. the challenger is not happy with the resolution, the matter can be taken to tribal court. The results were: Fred R. Harrington Jr., of Petoskey, received 553 votes; Dexter Marsh McNamara, of Pigeon, received 521 votes; Alice King-Yellowbank, of Petoskey, received 494 votes; Melvin L. Up early for a dentist appointment 30 minutes away, and then time for a soda and on to some window shopping. We came home, did some tasks and headed out once again for the fitness center so ol' appleseed could get his next 6 week physical fitness regimen. Much to our surprise, the trainer came out to the car when we pulled up. She had been watching for us to arrive. She is 3 months pregnant and was quite upset. She said she had not been feeling well today and about 5 minutes before we arrived, she threw up. This is her first pregnancy and is quite shaken and upset that she is just now throwing up. She asked if we minded if she rescheduled to Monday. Of course we said that was fine. The poor gal had tried so hard not to cry but started to tear up and said that she was not handling the sickness well at all. She was going back in and call her doctor who is at the hospital or doctors building around the corner. We wish her well and hope that it is not something going wrong. We then went to take Allie her dew berries that she picked yesterday and was promised to take home with her. She and Cody each had a plastic bag of dew berries that they picked off bushes which line the road to our house. I wouldn't let them eat too many while they picked but told them they could take their bags of berries home to show their mommies. She forgot hers and was relieved that I was going to be bringing them to her today. I also had gone through the toy stash here and took a bag of them to her house. Her mom can give them to her grandson or to her mom or to the garage sale she is having next week. It is a good thing I had a place to get rid of the excess here. I had requested toys on freecycle a couple weeks ago and got plenty of good toys complete with batteries and all the working parts and pieces. Since I do not anticipate caring for any more infants, I am getting rid of all the infant stuff as the twins don't use them anymore. I put the cradle/swings up for sale today and put the high chairs in the church garage sale. I use the booster seats that sit on my chairs and the kids get pushed right up to the table. It takes less space to do it that way, than high chairs. I also put them into their walkers with trays with finger foods so high chairs were redundant. We then went and looked at the subdivision we are considering for our next residence. We are anticipating not being here in a year or so. House plans are in the future search. I wish we could find a plan that was like our home in Texas. Probably an internet search could come up productive in that area. We then came home after shopping at the local hardware stores for things we need like silicone caulking, a new caster for one of the cribs, some shelf pegs to replace a couple missing, new hose sprayer, and a few other things. I finished cleaning and sorting the back refrigerator freezer and the upright freezer. This needed to be done since the new seasons produce is ready for storage. We put up beets. 8 pints of pickled beets and some left for eating plain. Appleseed dug some new potatoes and picked some fresh green beans to go with them. He did the green beans and put them in the refrigerator while I worked on the beets. Then it was a good nap for him and the end of the Cardinals game, while I put the beet stained cloths and towels in the wash. A little starbucks liqueur mixed with baileys irish cream has taken the edge off the overworked housewife...heh heh heh.... As I passed across the front walk to the porch, I saw movement on the ground and the grass. What I saw was the swarming, outpouring of some type of flying insect. I was horrified! I had heard of termite swarms and flying ants so I figure it must be one or the other. I tried to drown them in a long flush of the hose but they kept coming and c oming and c oming. Each one would head straight in the direction of our house! Yikes! My husband finally came home and I called him to come have a look. He was able to capture a few to show the "bug man" whom I will be calling first thing in the morning. I did a search on ants and termites and have since determined that these are a type of ant due to the formation of the antennae which are elbowed. I don't know his wifes maiden name but her first name is Crystal. They have a 4 month old son named Harley. The brides dress was a young girl's dream of what a wedding dress should be. Lace, flowers, buttons, and train. Gorgeous. Poor Rhonda, this is the first of the weddings of her children. She only has 5 more weddings to go. LOL She may be interested in bribing them to elope with some much needed cash after all the work she put into this wedding. I hope she can finally get some much needed rest. We came home and I proceeded to do my laundry and ironing so it is done by Monday since the flooring people will be here Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. That will be a trick with 4 under 4 to keep out of their way. The 3 youngest will stay at home with their daddy until about 1:30 so that will help immensely. It was a difficult day for him since he has finally realized that he is unable to do so much garden work with his knee not recovering too much from his last knee surgery. We also went to look at a house on the market that we had wanted to buy. We spent today at the local state park feeding the trout at the hatchery, watching appleseed fish, and playing on the playground equipment. They had mini burgers for lunch and got coupons for free ones next time due to a long wait. They had root beer and filled chocolate cupcakes at the park for a treat and then we headed for the tire shop due to a low tire which was found to be due to a rusty nail in the tire. I searched the fridge and found 2 smoky grilled chicken breasts which I sliced thinly to top our fresh garden salad with for dinner along with celery stalks filled with hot mint cream cheese, and some filled with honey dill cream cheese. We are going to the fitness center shortly and that will be my day. Oh yes, I put in a request for toys on the local freecycle site and went and picked up a boxful as well as a play table. I will clean those with disinfectant and the kids will be glad I have pc access and BEG! I go to pick up another batch of toys in the morning from a couple that we gave a weed eater to when they requested it on freecycle. I will probably regret it since the chemicals sprayed by the exterminator were probably washed off along with the pollen. Our siding was actually turning golden/red with the accumulation of this years excellent pollen growth. I hope that means the gardens will also be grand since they may have been well pollinated as well. Let's hope so anyway. Odawa holding new elections 2005-05-24T16:43:00.000-05:00 This is the tribe of my half brothers and sisters. One of the candidates is a half brother of mine.Voters in the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians will have 19 people to pick from in the June primary election for tribal council. Ballots for the election were sent out to members of the tribe today, May 24. The primary election needs to whittle the number of candidates down to 18. Candidates in the primary are: Theresa Lynn Boda, of Bay Shore; Alice King-Yellowbank, of Petoskey; Beatrice A. Law, of Clare; Dexter Marsh McNamara, of Pigeon; Judith D. Pierzynowski, of Lansing; Regina (Gasco) Bentley, of Boyne City; Catherine Marie (Delmas) Laba, of Palms; Paul Walton Eames (Cabinaw), of Harbor Springs; Timothy Lee LaCroix, of Boyne City; Fred R. Harrington Jr., of Petoskey; Shirley Marie (Naganashe) Oldman, of Harbor Springs; Mary Ann Roberts, of Petoskey; Rita May Shananaquet, of Tuscora Township; Janet Marie Shomin, of Grand Rapids; Leroy Shomin, of Grand Rapids; Marvin P. Mulholland, of Portage, John Angus Kawegoma, of Good Hart; Melvin L. Kiogima, of Traverse City and Valerie Jeanne Biro, of Harper Woods. Denise Petoskey, head of the tribe's election board, said about 3,300 primary ballots were sent to all members over the age of 18. Those ballots must be mailed back by June 24. There will be a general election on Aug. 8. Ballots for that election will be sent out 30 days before the election date. The general election will include the winners of the primary election running for the tribal council and two teams running for tribal chair and vice-chair.Running for chair and vice-chair are two teams. The team of current chair Frank David Ettawageshik, of West Traverse Township, and his running mate William I. Denemy, of Stanton, will be up against the team of former chair Gerald Vincent Chingwa, of Traverse City, and George A. Anthony, of Traverse City. Petoskey said there will be a "Meet the Candidates" night for the general election 1-5 p.m., July 23 in the Petoskey Middle School. These elections are part of an overall change in the tribe to a new system of government under a new constitution. "Because we just passed a new constitution, we are starting all over," said Petoskey. The last tribal council election was in 2003. Tribal council members and the chair and vice chair will serve for four years. However, Petoskey said the tribe needs to stagger the elections to create four-year terms. Therefore, this year, the winner of the tribal chair and vice chair election and the top five vote-getters in the council election will serve for four years. The rest will serve for two years. At the end of two years, the tribe will have another council election, this time for four year terms. According to Ettawageshik, the new constitution, approved by more than 70 percent of voters of the tribe in February, organizes the tribe into a checks and balances-type of government. Under the former constitution, the tribal council had seven members, including the tribal chair. The tribal council chair and vice chair, who were normally elected along with the council, are now elected separately on a ticket together. This means candidates for tribal council chair and vice chair will be running on the same ticket, similar to the federal government's presidential election that has a presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate on the same ticket. The members of the tribal council will be elected separately from the chair and vice chair position. The number of council members has been increased to nine. Additionally, a tribal court, which was created by the council in the past, will be created by the new constitution. Ettawageshik said this new form of government is the traditional tribal form of government throughout history. It was also the inspiration for the United State's Constitution and the federal separation of powers. The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa have been working toward this new constitution since it was reaffirmed by the federal government in 1994. The tribe celebrates this on Sovereignty Day, Sept. 21. At this date, the tribe began working on its membership roll and the new constitution. Ettawageshik said the tribe turned in its roll in 1996, but it took several years to certify it. In the meantime, work on the new constitution continued and it was voted on in February. It is the second time in a few days that this fighting has gone on. The first night it happened about 1 am and the screeching went on and on. I know someone got terribly injured in that "domestic" encounter. I say domestic since it is our backyard "kids" who come to eat. Tonight, I spied 2 sets of raccoon eyes high in a tree. Evidently they must have wanted the same branch! KIDS!!!!!!!!!! I hope they got over it since I do plan on sleeping once I get to bed. ott Star Wars 2005-05-22T22:30:00.000-05:00 I went to see the latest Star Wars movie yesterday. It was such a fast moving action packed first half that I had a difficult time taking it all in. It was more like a three ring circus with too many things to catch my attention. It slowed by the second half. The main characters of the series were then developed and I could picture them in my mind as the characters I remember from the first three films. The last half hour was the best of all. The characters and plot then became the seeds for the original star wars movie. It is a shame if this is the end of the series for now the characters are there and we know their history. I sure did miss not having any star wars fans here to share the movie with for I sure did feel good about having had the time to go see it. Relaxing Sunday 2005-05-22T21:50:00.000-05:00 Today was a very nice day here with temps in the mid 80's. There is a slight chance of showers overnight. We could sure use the moisture on the gardens. We went to an end of school cookout mid day and saw a house that the firemen were finishing their work on. It was not far from where we had the dinner. Poor people, losing their home. Other than getting some tasks accomplished when we arrived home, we really had a slow relaxing day. The people who hosted the dinner have a home in the country...far far out! He is a landscaper by profession so after visiting their property, we decided we needed to get some work done when we got home! Their grounds are wonderful. He put up a split rail fence on part of it with oak logs he cut himself on his acreage. What a worker. When this was not the case, I sent her a post this evening explaining the arrival of the posts with attachments. She has replied and stated that someone has used their address and her ISP had already been notified. Evidently I was not the only one to get these bogus posts. All I can say is this, know who your efriends are and their posting habits so you too will know when something is just not right. I forwarded the posts to her for her ISP to deal with. I am going to include a photo that makes me giggle when i think of the mental image I put into the minds of these 3 year olds regarding going into the woods on their own. I tell a mean story! The voice I use when saying "the big bad wolf" is meant to enhance their image of something big and bad and something they don't want to encounter. I tell about little red riding hood and her troubles as well at the 3 little pigs who also had their face to face with the big huffer. In the first photo they are casually eating their watermelon treat outside. In the second photo, they are responding to the sound of catwails as the cats do each other in. LOL. HOWEVER...always on the lookout for reinforcement of why 3 year olds do not venture into the woods without me...I say, the cats are warning us that they have spotted the big bad wolf and are scared!!!!!!!!!
